Scott Sklar

Scott Sklar runs The Stella Group, Ltd,, founded in 2000 which facilitates clean distributed energy specializing on blending renewable and efficiency technologies and financing for projects as well as promoting government polices to expand markets. Previously, Sklar served concurrently as Executive Director for 15 years of two national trade associations of solar and bioenergy industries. Sklar started his energy career serving for nine years as a military and energy aide to Senator Jacob K Javits (NY), and cofounded the Congressional Solar Caucus in the mid-1970’s where most of the renewable energy legislation first was passed by the US Congress as a result of the first and second oil embargos. He serves as Steering Committee Chairman of the Sustainable Energy Coalition, composed of the 20+ national industry, advocacy groups, think tanks, and environmental groups. Sklar has coauthored two books, “The Forbidden Fuel: A History of Power Alcohol just updated and re-released in 2010, and a “Consumer Guide to Solar Energy” in its third publishing. . On November 4, 2010 Secretary Locke approved Sklar’s appointment to the Department of Commerce Renewable Energy and Energy Efficiency Advisory Committee (RE&EEAC). Sklar is also an Adjunct Professor at the George Washington University (GWU) teaching a unique multidisciplinary course on sustainable energy. He lives in a solar home, has a zero-energy office building in Virginia and a unique solar system on his Washington, DC office.
